I didn't really know what to expect when I picked up Titanfall for my 360. I know what I'd seen in reviews, videos and pictures. I don't generally trust all that information anyway. Yes I am aware that the Xbox One or PC versions are graphically superior, however; I do not have an Xbox One and I didn't feel like getting the game on my PC. Why? Because I only wanted to rent the damn thing. It's a good thing I did too.
I'd like everyone to know that I do not care for multiplayer. It doesn't determine my choices in buying a game. I'm one of those guys that likes a really great story over everything else. Just one more reason I didn't buy this game. It's all multiplayer. Even the campaign. How could I possibly enjoy any story attached when its outcome is based on the performance of people I don't know and in all probability don't like.
My first problem was the matchmaking. A starting rank 1 is now against a couple of 20's some 15 through 17 ranks and a 36. That might not sound so bad except the level cap is 50 which means most of these people already know the maps and have much better load-outs. What's that? Did you ask me "What about your team?" Great question. Lets pull up the list real quick and see. Oh, look. My team just dropped out. I'm in a deathmatch and it seems my only other companion (a level 5) has just joined. This is not my campaign. This is my frustration. Granted this is not how every match will go. I know that. The fact that I have to deal with it at all is my issue.
(Try to imagine this with only one name on the militia side at a rank of 1. This is so fun!)
This isn't innovation in my eyes. Bringing the two together, multiplayer and campaign, isn't a step forward for me. You're crowding in on my time and I don't want any part of it. This is now just another shooter. COD, Battlefield, even Gears of War does this. At least those had a campaign I could run through before I discarded them. But we have Mechs you fool! Ok, so your a lot like Hawken.
I hope that this pays off for those of you who truly love this game. I'm happy you found another way to past the time. I'm certain there will be a long line of Titanfall's to pick up each year. As for me I'll just continue to wait on something less punishing. Maybe I'll try the Witcher 3?
