SPOILERS
Edit: Apologies for this not going up on time; I had ten moments done, but I really wanted to give TP the attention it deserves!
Whew, it's been a long time since I've done one of these blogs...but I'm not currently feeling any real source of inspiration, and I feel like revisiting Twilight Princess. It was the game that set me on my path as a gamer, and it still stands as one of my favorites ever. It's my favorite console title, my favorite Zelda game...you get the picture. Because I hold it in such a high regard...I decided to break the "Top Ten" and expand a bit, which I have done before, but I usually did those with preparation . Tonight, I'm just going to do as many as I can squeeze in!
So when are we getting the HD remake?
19. Constructing the Cannon
Unfortunately I couldn't find a gif of the short little montage that Fyer has building the Sky Cannon, but if you remember it, it's pretty funny. It just shows him banging on various parts of the cannon with a hammer over the course of three days.
18. Fighting King Bulbin
King Bulbin was pretty cool because he, and his group, were essentially hired mercenaries working for Ganondorf. He's the one who originally kidnaps all of Link's friends, and then Colin, but he's given justice at the Bridge of Eldin, where he's catapulted off into the abyss. He survives for a couple more fights, but I still like the first the best.
17. Ganondorf's Imprisonment
As a nice little tie-in to Ocarina of Time, we saw a flashback to when Ganondorf was convicted of his crimes and was executed following the events of the child timeline. Of course, this execution failed, as Ganondorf had somehow received the Triforce of Power, and used it to survive the final blow.
16. The Dream
The craziest thing in Twilight Princess (besides Zant) is this little montage after Link rids the Lanayru province of Twilight. Lanayru warns Link of the power of the Fused Shadows in an....interesting way.
15. Midna Calls Forth the Fused Shadows
In order to penetrate the barrier surrounding Hyrule Castle, Midna finally unleashes the Fused Shadows, which turn her into a weird, gooey, spider monster thing, with a spear. I won't ever understand how exactly that made her more powerful...but hey, she did break the barrier.
14. Zelda's Sacrifice
After Midna is weakened by Zant, Zelda seemingly sacrifices herself in order to save Midna. She doesn't die, but what I think she does is gives up a good amount of her life force, which renders her more susceptible to Ganondorf's power, or something.
13. Twilit Bloat
This thing? Creepy as hell. As the last of the Twilit bugs you need to defeat, this thing serves as a great closer...but gah, it's so just...bleeeeeeeh.
12. Twilit Aquatic Morpheel
Morpheel is unique in that it is I believe the only boss fight over the entire Zelda series to take place entirely underwater. I don't remember any other ones, and certainly no other ones that had Link swimming around as much as he does here. Grappling onto his back and attacking the eye was one of the most thrilling moments I'd ever had in a video game at the time, so riding on him was set in stone as a a memory for littler me.
11. Twilit Arachnid Armogohma
The Dominion Rod is nigh worthless for most of Twilight Princess, but it truly shines in the Temple of Time, as well as in the boss of the dungeon, Armogohma. First, you need to shoot the eye on his back (which is there, for some reason), and then use the Dominion Rod to take control of one of the large statues around the room. Then, you can bring their giant, worn fists onto Armogohma's exposed midsection. It's so satisfying.
10. Twilit Igniter Fyrus
This boss fight isn't particularly difficult, but I've always enjoyed it for what it does do. It felt unique, because you first shoot his weak point with an arrow, then trip him by pulling on the shackles chained to his legs. It was always fun to watch him go "arrr what" and then collapse to the ground, followed by the awesome music and a quick bout of sword attacks.
9. Twilit Dragon Argorok
Argorok and Morpheel's battles are quite similar, as they both use the Clawshots for the fight, but I prefer the fight in the sky to the one underwater. Argorok swoops around, and you need to clench onto his back and stab his exposed weak point form there. It's really, really awesome, and is probably one of the most dramatic boss fights in the series.
8. Fighting Zant
Zant is possibly Twilight Princess's most insane character. He can be calm and collected, murderous, or giddy. These are all reflected while fighting him, as he takes delight in getting in hits on Link, and does powerful ones as well.
7. NOT TAKE MIRROR
"Oh hey, it's the mirror! Finally, after wandering through this demented old house with all of these annoying ice enemies, we've finally reached the mirror shard, and there's no boss! Hey, wait, Yeta, why are you looking in the mirror...yes, I know the mirror is pretty...what's wro-OH MY GOD GET AWAY FROM ME!"
6. Midna's Farewell
You know it's coming. When Midna's true form is revealed, and then the final scene shows Zelda, Link, and her in Aribter's Grounds' Mirror Chamber...you know it's coming. Midna bids farewell to Link and Zelda, trying to hide the tears that are falling from her eyes. As she wipes them away, she says "I...see you later", and the tear goes into the mirror, shattering it. Thus, all connections to the Twilight Realm are broken, as Midna's attempt to amend for the trouble caused by her people. We may never know what happened from then on in the alternate world...but it's a shame if we never do...
5. Twilit Fossil Stallord
The spinner is the item you will use the least over the entire course of Twilight Princess (well, tied with the Dominion Rod maybe), except in the dungeon Arbiter's Grounds, where you obtain it. For the boss of the dungeon, Stallord, you must spin around a giant arena and hit his base, cracking the bones. Once this is done, you must spin up the tower in the middle of the arena and launch right into his mouth. I never get tired of that boss fight.
4. The Hidden Village
Deep within a secluded part of Hyrule lies a village only inhabited by an old woman, Impaz, the last remaining member of what once was the Sheikah tribe (presumably the last member, at least). Before Link can reach her, however, he must deal with the Bulbins that have infested the town...in an Old West fashion.
3. Reaching the Master Sword
Obtaining the Blade of Evil's Bane is a momentous moment in any Zelda title (well, that actually has the Master Sword in it). It almost always signifies a halfway, or turning point. After this, a new portion of the world opens up for Link to explore, and/or Zelda is kidnapped by the dark lord, Ganondorf. In Twilight Princess, this moment is when Link obtains the ability to switch between his human and wolf forms, as well as when he and Midna embark on their journey to obtain the shards of the Mirror of Twilight.
2. Midna's Lament
When Zant uses the light spirit Lanayru to punish Midna for her "betrayal" to the Twili people, she becomes frail and weak, as seen above. After being warped outside with the weak Midna, Link must travel through the rain to Hyrule Castle in order to speak with Princess Zelda. During this somber trek, one of the most beautiful tracks in all of gaming plays...
1. The Final Strike
It all comes down to this. As the locked blades spark off of each other, the younger warrior pushes back, and catches the old warlock off guard. After a quick flurry of slashes, the older man falls to the ground. Taking his chance, the Hero of the Twilight leaps into the air, and brings down the Master Sword through the Gerudo King's chest. Thus, the last drop of blood is split on this chapter of the war between light and darkness...
Okay, this blog is going up eight hours later. Yay!
Peace.
