Nintendo at E3 2014 predictions

Nintendo got the ball rolling for E3 hype over a month before E3, so naturally people have begun anticipating what they’ll announce. I figured writing mine down would be a good way to get back into a writing groove. This is probably going to suck, but at least I'm writing something.

(I'm only talking about one of these, but I felt like the image fit)

-A new Super Smash Bros 4 Newcomer will be revealed alongside an actual release date and a Wii U exclusive mode. Whoever the SSB4 Newcomer is, their announcement will probably be used to lead into a game related to them, but that’s another blog that my first attempt at this one turned into. I just started listing which characters would have a chance of being used to promote their series in Smash Bros and it became too long for a single point on a list.

-Bayonetta 2 will get more details revealed alongside a new trailer, same goes for X, Yarn Yoshi, Hyrule Warriors, and Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. We don’t know much about any of these games so there’s not much to predict. I expect Hyrule Warriors will either receive the most attention of these games or be delayed. At the very least, I want release dates. SMT x FE and Yarn Yoshi are the ones I expect to hear the least about.

-Wii Sports Club Baseball will be released after the direct. Its baseball season, and Nintendo has pulled that trick plenty of times before. I feel like there should be more time to get people excited, but I have a feeling Nintendo is going to stick with this method. Boxing was stated to be the last sport that will be released, so Baseball has to be released before it. Hopefully it will use the Gamepad in an interesting way.

-A new Star Fox game will be revealed. There have been hints that Retro studios is going to work on the next Star Fox game, and E3 would be a great time to announce it. Star Fox has changed up its gameplay enough that making a new feature to take advantage of the Gamepad shouldn’t be too hard. I wouldn’t be surprised if it came with online multiplayer. Of course, I predicted this would show up last year and it didn't.

-The Wii U Zelda game will be officially announced. It was explicitly stated they’re saving this for E3 sometime before VGX. In other words, we know its going to be there in some form. Though even without that comment, its Zelda, we all knew the Wii U would get a new mainline Zelda game the moment it was announced.

-DLC will be announced for some of Nintendo’s major already released games. So far, Nintendo has proven that they know how to do DLC and Free to Play the right way (though Mario Golf: World Tour’s day 1 DLC got me suspicious), so I actually like the idea of Nintendo making DLC for games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Plus DLC for those games would show that Nintendo is invested enough in the online multiplayer to not abandon them as quickly as the Wii games.

-Friending and Messaging will finally come to the 3DS and Browser versions of Miiverse. Right now, only the Wii U version of Miiverse lets you send friend requests and message your friends (friend code sharing isn’t allowed on Miiverse), which doesn’t make sense. At the very least, Nintendo should get those features on the 3DS version before Super Smash Bros 4 launches.

-Sin and Punishment 3 and Pikmin 4. Oh what’s that, my hand must have slipped. Sin and Punishment 3 and Pikmin 4. Did I type something? Sin and Punishment 3 and Pikmin 4. It’s almost like I’m trying to tell you about two games I don’t think will be announced at E3 but I want to be announced while making a failed attempt at a funny ending that attempts to save itself by being meta.
