31 / 31 Day 5: Technical Difficulties

Since deciding to start a 31/31, I've had several encounters with the dark and seedy side of the website: glitches and bugs and ghost blogs oh my! But things like that are something that is increasingly common in the world of video games. The question is, are gamers going to take it?

When publishers are able to launch a game that is literally unplayable at launch, who holds them accountable? One might think the gaming press, but so far the only outlet which even approaches something like this is Polygon, which has a review score which can change based upon whether or not bugs are fixed, but even this is not without flaws and controversy.

One would think gamers would vote with their wallet, but as anyone in a democracy feels, sometimes it just seems you cannot count on the intelligence of the average voter.

When did this sort of thing become acceptable? For P.C. gamers it is nothing new, but for console gamers this is a whole new game.

Is it something that gamers are just content to complain about but will buy anyways? Is it something which can even be fixed by gamers?

Could part of the problem be the nature of the modern industry, where it costs more to delay a title and fix problems than release it when due?

I don't like blogs that leave more questions than answers, but this is one of them.
