E3 was amazing this year, lots of surprises, and impressive conferences for Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. Unfortunately a lot of the games shown aren't releasing until 2015. So here are five more apps to help make the wait easier.
10. Tiny Wings
In Tiny Wings you are faced with the challenge of playing as a bird who can't fly for more than a matter of seconds. The goal is to get as far as possible by correctly timing landings and releases to through an island. Yellow "coins" are placed along your path and increase the time you have before nightfall. A second game mode is a race between four younger birds. This game mode introduces new courses that differ from the original islands by adding obstacles like water and jumps. Tiny Wings has a high replay value, and fun visuals. Younger audiences will appreciate the ability to name both the main bird and the four baby birds. In conclusion Tiny Wings is fresh and different from the may other bird themed games.
9. Cut the Rope
Cut the Rope is one of the few apps that I have perfectly completed 100% through. I take a lot of pride in this but the real credit goes to Zeptolab for making an app that got me to put so much time an effort into it. The objective in Cut the Rope is pretty self explanatory, get the candy to the OmNom by cutting ropes. There are 15 boxes each with 25 levels. To perfect a level the player must earn all three stars by hitting them with the candy while getting it to the OmNom. With each new box new obstacles are introduced. This keeps the game fresh for those like me who play through every level.
8. Jetpack Joyride
Of all the apps on this list Jetpack Joyride is the most fun. It's the Saints Row or Dead Rising of apps, completely silly and ridiculous yet entertaining. The object of the game is to get as far as possible through a secret laboratory on a stolen jetpack. Obstacles, such as rockets, lasers, and electric things help put an end to your escape. A lot of the silliness comes from the customization and vehicles. Some vehicles include a dragon, a zero gravity suit, and a teleporter. The player can customize his/her outfit, jetpack, and gadgets (upgrades that help you go farther or score higher). Without going into much detail the customization options are ridiculous and worth spending your coins on. All in all, Jetpack Joyride is the funnest app I've ever played.
7. Plants vs. Zombies 2
I didn't play the first Plants vs Zombies game but when the second one released I saw that it was free and downloaded it. Plants vs Zombies 2 is an exceptional game that everyone should at least try. It's a strategy where the player is tasked with placing plants throughout a garden to hold off several waves of zombies. The theme of the game is traveling through time and the story, though shallow is entertaining at times. New plants are earned through out the game and introduce a new challenge of choosing the plants you want before the round. Plants vs Zombies 2 received a 9.25 from GameInformer and I would echo their score.
6. Sword and Sworcery EP
One of the few excellent story-driven apps that I've played. Sword and Sworcery is an adventure game that would cater towards the desires of a Zelda fan. I don't want to go into much detail because the story is great and worth not knowing about. All I'll say is that this app was made for the gaming audience and not the average phone owner.
Im on vacation this coming week so expect the final entry next monday or so. I hope you enjoyed the start of my Top Ten. Im still looking for more of your favorite apps, I only have one suggestion so far and I would like to include a list of your recommendations on the next issue.
