The Vita, as I’ve always said, is an incredibly powerful system. Finally, it seems, developers are catching on. With recent releases of the fantastic Sly Collection, Borderlands 2 (Which is great, even with a less-than-perfect framerate), and the upcoming Ratchet and Clank Collection, the Vita is getting bigger and better titles. And while that’s all well and good, I still think they can do better. Here are five more games that should get the handheld treatment.
Mirror’s Edge
I love Mirror’s Edge. I also love my Vita. Both together? Why not? DICE is already busy brushing Battlefield 4 under the rug— I mean, working on Battlefront and Mirror’s Edge 2, so they’re preoccupied for a while. But -like Battlefield Hardline- why not hand it over to another developer? DICE can oversee the development of the game, and insure it’s worthy of the title. The touchscreen and touchpad could make the game really fun to play, and the title alone would bring hipsters everywhere to the store.
Mass Effect
C’mon, this is a no-brainer. They brought a game to the iPhone for crying out loud! If not try to bring the trilogy over (which could be… problematic, no pun intended), at least bring an offshoot or side story. Powers could be mapped to the touchcreen, as could the weapon/power ring. Also, I need to be able to touch my dialogue options. Make it happen, EA.
BioShock
… No more will be said of this.
Metal Gear Solid
MGS Peace Walker was one of my favorite games… Ever. It was absolutely amazing for a handheld, and even looks good on consoles, so why doesn’t Kojima make a Vita-Exclusive game? With the power of the system, combined with Hideo’s obsessive attention to detail, they could make a game better than Peace Walker… Maybe.
Something With Valve On It
I don’t care if it’s Portal, L4D, Team Fortress, or even Half-Life, this just needs to happen. One of those titles alone would skyrocket the Vita’s sales, but what if they release an Orange Box of sorts? Or, better yet, make an Orange Box of all new titles in each franchise. Nah, that would require Valve to make a third game in all of their franchises. That will never happen, but one can dream, can’t they?
