Before I start this little blog, I first want to thank everyone that took a peek at my previous blog. It was my first on GIO in over a year, and managed over 500 views in 24 hours of it being published. So, again, I appreciate it.
2014 started off without a console in my home. I acquired a Playstation 4, and now own 7 physical games on it. Compared to my usual mid-year gaming stats, 2014 is treating me very well. With E3 behind us, and the bulk of the gaming year approaching, I thought I'd do a run-down of what I am (hopefully) going to acquire the rest of the year.
July 29th - The Last of Us
I never played The Last of Us on the PS3. I honestly am not a huge fan of Naughty Dog. Given all of the accolades and awards it has received, however, I think I'd be doing myself a great disservice by not at least giving it a try.
August ? - Minecraft
I'm a Sony guy, so Minecraft has never been a point of interest for me. Recently though, I've found myself, for some reason, watching YouTube videos of people playing this game. It looks pretty awesome, and a good time wasting game to play when there's a lull in new game activity. Oddly enough, this is one of the games on this list I'm looking forward to the most.
August 26th - Metro Redux
This is another game that I've never played. I've always wanted to, but for some reason, I never got around to it. I'm a sucker for deals, and the Redux includes both Metro 2033 and Last Light. My birthday is in August, so I'm hoping to swing this as a birthday gift from the missus. If not, I may have to wait a bit to get it, but it's definitely on the list.
October 7th - Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dragon Age Origins was the first game I got when I first bought my PS3. It blew me away. While Dragon Age 2 wasn't all that wonderful, it was still enjoyable, to an extent. I've been waiting for this one for a long, LONG time. In my opinion, Inquisition is the only game that's got a chance to overthrow Wolfenstein TNO as my own personal Game of the Year. I'm counting the days.
October 21st - Samurai Warriors 4
I'm a huge fan of the Warriors games. My loyalty mainly lies with Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors is a great series in its own right. Unfortunately, I missed out on playing SW3 due to its lack of a Playstation release, so I'm a little out of the loop. October is filled with money-spending activities away from video games... my dad's birthday, my wife's birthday, my daughter's birthday, and Halloween. If I have to pass on a game this year, this one is probably going to be it, unfortunately.
October 28th - Assassins Creed Unity
For a long time, I stayed away from this franchise. It wasn't until I wandered upon the Ezio Trilogy on PS3 that I became a fan. AC2 and Brotherhood were both fantastic games. Revelations was a bit of a step backwards, and AC3 was just awful. I purchased Black Flag together with my PS4, and was drawn into the series all over again. It was a sight to behold, and it kept me engaged in playing, even after the story had ended. I spent hours collecting every little bit of loot I could from every single nook and cranny. I'm looking forward to doing the same during the French revolution.
Fall? - Warriors Orochi 3
FINALLY! As I stated earlier, I'm a huge fan of the Warriors games. When Warriros Orochi 3 initially released, it was a digital-only game for the PS3. I was heartbroken, because I don't have sufficient internet for gaming, and I absolutely loved the first two mash-ups. With the hint of a physical release for the PS4 sometime this fall, I'm giddy with excitement all over again.
??? - GTA V
On September 17, 2013, I was in a line that went around a mall at midnight to get this game. I finished it within a matter of days, and began completing every single side mission and finding every collectible I possibly could. Since I no longer have my PS3, I was eagerly awaiting a new-gen announcement at E3. Rockstar didn't disappoint, and I love them for it. There's been no date set yet, but a logical thing to do would be to release it a year after its initial launch, away from the October overflow of games.
??? - Tetris
So, here's the thing - I love me some Tetris. It got me hooked on playing video games as a child, and i still continues to occupy time on my phone. Ubisoft announced an anniversary release for the new consoles, but didn't specify if it was a digital-only type of thing. Logically, I don't see Tetris getting a retail release, but I'm still hoping for it all the same. If it does, I'll be the first in line to get a copy.
That should be it. My wallet hates me already, but games like Minecraft, Dragon Age, and Assassins Creed should keep me busy long enough that I can hold off on buying games in the early part of next year.
Hopefully.
