Jackie Chan Stunt Master starring, of course, Jackie Chan is a 3D beat ‘em up released on the Playstation in 2000.
This is one of my favorite PS1 games. The story in this game is almost nonexistent. The plot is your grandfather has been kidnapped and it is up to Jackie to get him back. That’s about it as far as the story goes, but for this game the story doesn’t really matter. The gameplay is what’s important here.
The combat in this game is just great. They actually used motion capture and voice from Jackie himself to make the game, and you can really tell. The combat is decently fast and has a good amount of combos Jackie can use while battling through New York. It’s really fun to do running wall kicks and even some drunken boxing moves. In true Jackie style there are many objects that can be utilized in combat including chairs, tables, brooms, pots, and even fish. It really never gets old fighting with a fish. The bosses are pretty funny. My favorite ones are the chef and the disco man. There is also a fair amount of platforming. However it is all handled really well. I never found myself suffering from having to do a platforming section until I got sick of it. All in all the gameplay is solid. The music is quite enjoyable as well. There is a collection factor to this game. It comes in the form of dragon tokens. If you collect all of them you can unlock an extra costume for Jackie and a development video starring the man himself.
I like this game so much because it does feel like you are playing a Jackie Chan movie. It has the same quality that his movies do, good action with humor mixed in. Although the one-liners from Jackie and the enemies can be a little grating over time. You could probably pick it up for around $20. I would highly recommend giving this game a go it won’t disappoint.
