I hate opening blogs with a disclaimer but I'd rather do it upfront than towards the end and just be as transparent as I can so you can decide whether you want to read the blog or not. I am going to focus on an Xbox One game in this blog. I'm not trying to convince you to buy it and I don't get any kickbacks if you do. It's actually a game created by an indie developer (of which I am a big supporter), and truthfully, I hope it does so well they make it available on other platforms (actually it is available on Amazon's Fire TV) - because in the end I think it would help sustain the title for a longer period of time (especially if they can incorporate cross-platform play, which I think they could easily do). Okay, phew...glad that's over.
Two days ago if you asked me what Fibbage was I don't know that I'd have an answer for you. Some type of hybrid fruit and vegetable combining figs with cabbage. Or maybe a card game combining Free Cell and Cribbage. Yeah, no idea what a Fibbage is. A quick check of Game Informer reveals...
Well yesterday I heard a co-worker talking about Fibbage being a new video game that was just released...and that it was a ton of fun. And then today...well, today I actually played Fibbage.
And it was indeed a lot of fun.
Fibbage is the lying, bluffing, fib-till-you-win trivia party game from the makers of YOU DON'T KNOW JACK! Play with 2-8 players! Fool your friends with your lies, avoid theirs, and find the (usually outrageous) truth. And get this: your phone or tablet is your controller! Fool your opponents into thinking your bluff is true and you'll rack up the points! But be careful, if you pick an opponent's bluff, they'll be doing a Fibbage fancy dance.
Hosted by YOU DON'T KNOW JACK's very own, and very lonely, Cookie Masterson!
Besides being a ton of fun, the game is actually quite innovative. The people you play with don't even need to own the game and they can use their phones, tablets or computers to play the game without downloading a single app. I know that might sound a bit awkward, but trust me, it works very well.
It might be easier to just watch a video of the gameplay.
So basically, the host launches the game on their console and starts a new game. When you do this, the game will show you your room code. You give that to your friends and have them go to the Fibbage website. Everyone that's playing (up to 8 players) enters a user name and the room code that will connect them to the host. Technically the players can only see what's happening if they can see the program running on the console. If you're playing with friends at your house, no problem. If not, it becomes a bit more challenging, but the developers have said in the next week or so the game will have Twitch streaming added. So, if you're streaming the game and your players are watching, then they see everything. If not, it's no big deal...they will be prompted on whatever device they're playing on what to do and when to do it.
Okay, so how do you play?
First a question is asked. You have a limited amount of time to make up a lie. Even if you know the right answer you'll be prompted to enter a lie - a convincing lie. Your goal is to get people to pick your answer. After all the answers are entered, the game will go around and show who answered what and award points accordingly.
I don't know if that sounds like fun to you or not...admittedly I was a bit skeptical at it first...but then I played it and had a blast.
The game was created by the studio that brought us You Don't Know Jack - Jackbox Games (official website). If you remember Cookie Masterson, you're going to love Fibbage. Cookie Masterson is back with some fresh and colorful dialogue. So funny.
Way back in 1995, we introduced the world to YOU DON'T KNOW JACK, the first and only trivia game to ask about Shakespeare and Scooby-Doo in the same question, complete with a smart-ass host and a full array of fart sound effects. The game went on to become a mega-hit, selling more than five million SKUs on PC and eventually moving to console, social, mobile and next gen platforms like OUYA. Meanwhile, Jackbox Games has become a full-fledged multi-platform publisher with new titles such as Lie SwatterTM, Clone BoothTM, Word PuttzTM and many others on the way. (Yet, we still have to lounge on the same skanky 1995 couch.)
If you're the sort of person that has "game night" and you're looking for a fun trivia based game to play with friends or family, this might be the best thing you'll ever find. Just be aware the game is rated T - Teen for suggestive themes, drug references, and crude humor. Of course any game where you ask trivia questions that lets you fill in the blank you're certainly going to get "some" of those types of answers from "some" of those types of people.
Whether you are interested in the game or not, at least you can say you know what Fibbage is now.
The Mayor of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky is a __________.
Fibbage is fun.
Cheers.
