Greetings Earthlings (or any celestial beings that enjoy video game themed podcasts)! The Best Podcast on the Citadel is here to break down the week’s biggest gaming stories with our own unique spin. Hosts Blake Anglin and Chris Mrkvicka are joined by news editor Tiff MacDonald to talk about the games they have been playing, this week’s big stories and our weekly top list. While Blake continues to die in Ori and the Blind Forest, and Tiff is playing architect in the impressive Cities: Skylines, Chris has been filling his time with an….unusual game. You really need to listen to hear him tell it, but suffice to say he is playing a game called Make it Rain, and it is exactly what it sounds like. You can watch the trailer here…..if you dare.
In a week full of Nintendo news, we start off by looking at Square Enix, and their announcement that they are working on a surprise JRPG game this year. We talk about what that could be, what it isn’t likely to be and some of our personal hopes for the project (and yes, the Final Fantasy VII drum does get beat on). What could be in the pipeline from the venerable developer? We take a look.
However, the biggest news comes from Nintendo, who, in addition to announcing a mysterious new game platform codenamed NX, has also dropped the bomb that they are teaming with developer DeNA to bring their properties to mobile. This is huge news, and we discuss the implications that has on the industry, whether or not we think Nintendo can leverage it properly and what it could mean for the company moving forward. This week’s top list also sparks a lively discussion, as we call out our favorite character archs in video games. Who makes the list? Who doesn’t? What exactly does that topic mean? Listen and find out!
