Mass Effect: The Thinking Mans Ending

Though much time has passed since the masses of Mass Effect lovers began their campaign to change the ending to the title that was critically acclaimed by reviewers and fans alike. As the fans began purchasing and eventually beating the game they felt cheated, not just because of the A,B,C style ending but because the epilogue was poorly done. When the Extended Cut was released I was satisfied with the new and improved ending.

I recently just finished my third play through with the character I dragged through all three games and the same moments that almost made my heart stop and my eyes leak fluid instilled that same sensation again. I struggled with romance and I was a true blue paragon of the people. I was their sword and their shield. As I reached the end I knew what lied before me but I trudged on, determined to make sure if the next title was a sequel I would have the character that all the fans wished they would have built.

Little did I think about what would be next. As I explored the endings the way I could see a good sequel coming into view is if they made a game with huge dept and with all the choices you made accurately laid out, or if the indoctrination theory was right, and the Extended Cut was the biggest gaming cover up in history. A third option would be if all the current races were gone and we started fresh... But that would anger a lot of people, to leave behind what we worked for, for all those years.

Then again, what about a prequel? That would make me happy either... All the cards are on the table. We can't change what has already happened in the universe. Unless they went with an alternate history, which would once again make me angry because I worked so hard to make my universe, my universe.

What if we explored the Protheans? That still would bring the choice situation rear its ugly head... We would have some freedom... But not enough. Though it would be very entertaining playing as the new species. Reliving the history of the empire that gave Shepard the knowledge to save the galaxy.

Then I thought about it... What about a ESO-like MMO? I thought to myself... BioWare did star wars to fair success... But there dealing with there property... Maybe they would do it right, give it meaning. What if we saw the first contact war play out? We could see the events that led up to Shepard. That is plausible... But its hard to see them taking that route as the choices situation would require a lot of phasing and making up a lot of lore and trying to make it fit within Shepard's universe.

What if we explored a different universe? They don't want to make a "Shepard 2.0" but the story and the way they set it up won't permit it without making it turn into a Gears of War: Judgement scenario (not bashing the title) at least in the sense of it changing.

It's going to be hard to pull of, but if anyone can do it, its BioWare.

Thanks for reading guys! Sorry about picture size as well! Be sure to check out my other blogs and leave me some feedback, oh and, Keelah se'lai.
