I'm sure that all of us(or at least most of us) enjoy watching a good movie every now and then. But, obviously, we also enjoy playing video games. Many would think that these two things could combine to great results. But, as we've all seen time and time again, this is sadly not the case. Many movie games are horrible, and a few are actually worth the money charged for them. I have some favorite movies(which will be listed). This is just my opinion, so please don't take this for a fact. Enjoy!
(Aliens from 1986)
While many would say that Alien was there favorite movie, this is my favorite movie in the Alien's franchise. The acting was great, and the idea alone of space marines are one of the most inspirational things to video games imaginable. But, would it translate to a video game well(please just forget about Aliens: Colonial Marines already!)? I have a developer in mind for this.
My developer: The Chinese Room
I want The Chinese Room to develop this game, because they know how to make a game frightnening(they are currently developing Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs), and that's what would have to be central to any game about Aliens. If we can ever forget about Aliens: Colonial Marines, than I think we would remember an Aliens game from The Chinese Room.
(Die Hard)
Bruce Willis made a classic film when he pretty much created the legacy that still follows the Die Hard movie franchise, along with his awesome catch phrase, which I won't repeat in this blog(but I would recommend you look up on YouTube. It starts with yippe-kay-ye). With the action and awesome catch phrases and political incorrectivity, I would think that this movie would be perfect for an action game. Here's my idea for a developer.
My developer: Raven Software
Raven Software handled the game for X Men: Origins: Wolverine(it was better than the movie), and they did an excellent job. I really had fun with that game, and it's the third best licensed game in video game history(behind Arkam Asylum and Arkam City). I think that Raven Software would be able to show this movie some respect with a great game adaptation.
(Full Metal Jacket)
I really like Full Metal Jacket. It's a great movie, and it really lets people see how bad war really is. The acting was good. the dialogue was good(and sometimes humorous). It's also really emotional, saddening, and sometimes just pure horrifying. This is, in my honest opinion, the best military movie ever made. This would translate quite easily into a great military FPS. And I have a good developer in mind for this specific genre.
My Developer: Treyarch
Treyarch and IW both make COD. But Treyarch are much better at story telling, which is what they would have to be to make this into a good game. They would have to tap into the horrifying nature of the movie, with moments that really scare the player and make them realize how bad war is, again like the movie. And Treyarch are the ones that I feel could do this better than anybody.
(The Expendables)
Ignoring the horrible game cash-in for the sequel, there hasn't been any attempts to make this acceptable movie franchise into games. But it definitely has the potential. From the great one-liners, to the awesome action scenes, and to the incredible sense of personality from each character. A great third person action game immediately comes to mind for me, and there's a great developer of these types of games that I think could do it right.
My developer: Epic Games
Epic Games knows how to do a great third person action game. Just look at Gears Of War. They could easily turn this great ode to the awesome action movies of the 80s into a great game that's also a great ode to the awesome action movies of the 80s. The only thing they would have to do is make the story more engaging, which isn't exactly The Expendables strong point. But I trust that Epic Games could do it.
(Independence Day)
This movie is an easily recognizable classic among movie lovers, and it's a great movie, to boot. The acting is honestly bad, but that doesn't matter, because the story is actually interesting, and you, as the watcher, want to find out more about these odd alien life forms that have invaded earth. There's a developer who handles sci-fi really well, and I think they would be the perfect choice.
My developer: Bioware
Bioware proved that they know how to handle the sci-fi genre of games with critically acclaimed Mass Effect franchise(please forget the ending). This would only have a little more constraint to it, but I think that Bioware knows how to handle things right, so if any developer was given the task of making a great game to this now historic movie, I think that Bioware could do it better than anybody.
(Predator)
Unlike with the Alien Franchise, I think that the first movie in the Predator franchise is the best(without a doubt). Arnold Swarzenegger is a great actor, and he really made this movie awesome. The movie made me wonder how to survive in the jungle(being hunted by aliens with big "laser" "beams" and nightvision and heatvision). I have a good developer in mind for this game, more out of curiosity.
My developer: Visceral Games
Visceral Games handled the excellent Dead Space games, and those games easily scared the living crap out of me. They were able to have a control scheme that both worked well, yet almost felt like it was working against you at the same time(even though it really wasn't). Predator would make a great game if Visceral Games handled it and made it a really scary game. And they're the ones that I'd trust to do it.
(Speed)
This was a great movie, in my opinion. This is one of the greatest Keanu Reeves movies of all time(right behind the Matrix), and he did a great job at his part. The rest of the movie isn't too bad, either, and enjoyed it from beginning to end, wondering what would happen at every turn the first time seeing it. This game would make for a great adventure game, where you have to find the bomb under the bus and defuse it, and there's a developer who just made a truly wonderful adventure game.
My developer: Telltale Games
Telltale Games made the magnificent Walking Dead episodic franchise. And while this game would obviously not be an episodic tell, this would make for a great adventure game. And , on top of Telltale knowing the genre, they can show respect to the franchises the games are based off of. And while the other games weren't exactly great games, they were true to the franchises that they represented. And Telltale would show respect to this franchise.
(The Patriot)
The Patriot is my favorite movie of all time. I left it for last, because the saying easily goes(save the best for last). There isn't a single part of this movie that I've ever had a problem with, and I can watch it at anytime, no matter where or when it is, and be completely happy to watch it(I stayed up and watched it at about 10:30 P.M.). This would make a great historical shooter, and there's only one developer who I would even barely trust with this.
My developer: Ubisoft Montreal
Ubisoft Montreal has experience with taking historical periods and making great games during the time. They've even made a great game in the colonial time base(Assassin's Creed III). They would only have to show respect to the movie, which is not that hard a feat for them, I'm sure. If Ubisoft Montreal handled this movie, I think they would handle it respectfully.
I hope you've enjoyed this. Tomorrow, I will have a top five list for my favorite game journalists. Tell me in the comments below which movies you want to see turned into a good game, along with the developer name, which choices of mine you don't agree with, or just how you felt about my blog. Have a nice day!
